Our journey to document customer and company interaction tools in the age of customized products and services started a decade ago. We decided to systematically collect and analyze web-based configurators in 2007 and initiated the Configurator Database Research Project. Now, 10 years later, we could identify 1250 product configurators that are accessible online for the interested user.

The Configurator Database was launched in 2007, covering 600 online configurators. Since then it was extended constantly. In 2013 the first Configurator Database Report was published including 900 configurators, in 2014 the second one including 970 configurators. The Configurator Database Report 2015 reached a new milestone: more than 1000 online configurators could be identified and at the end 1050 configurators were listed in the report.
