„Social Seating”- KLM introduces the social media service “Meet & Seat”

The Dutch airline company KLM plans to integrate Facebook and Linked-In profiles into their online booking system. This trend is called “Social Seating”. Based on your Facebook profile information, KLM wants to give you the possibility to get a seatmate that matches to your interests, relationship status and other features. 45% of the travelers admitted that they have flirted with a person during a flight.

The problem that occurs with this idea is the data privacy. The more information you present on Facebook, the better the match will be. There is already a Facebook app, which is called “Meet & Seat”, created by the Malaysia airline, but the idea behind it is a little bit different. If you use this application, first you have to get to know this person.

The interesting aspect about this innovative possibility is that you can do networking or flirt high above the clouds. KLM is of the opinion that this chance can eliminate boredom and at the same time gives you the chance to meet new people. Plus, everything is on one’s own will, so if you are not interested in this possibility, you can easily refuse it.

The concept will also be called “Meet & Seat” and is expected to start at the beginning of 2012.
